IN
THE BEGINNING The Iron Knights MC started sometime in September
1999. The founder and president is 'T-Bone', a Newark Police Supervisor. In
the 80's and early 90's he was a member of the Jersey Cobras and in the mid
90's he became a member of the Newark Chapter of the Blue Knights. T-Bone
wanted a club where law enforcement could ride with their friends. He then
recruited former members of the Jersey Cobras and members of the Blue Knights
who supported the idea of a law enforcement/civilian club.
ELVIS
RUN - SEPTEMBER 1999 T-Bone went to the run with a pencil, pad
and an idea. He collected $100 dollars each from dozens of bikers he knew
and some that he didn't know. He campaigned into October and recruited 51
bikers and $5000. He didn't have any colors in mind yet for the club.
NAME
AND COLORS T-Bone had a name from the beginning; "The Iron Knights".
With the help of Semels Embroidery in Passaic and a talented artist, colors
were designed. The design was red, black and grey rockers bearing the club's
name and location with a knight in the center armed with a sword and a shield
emblazoned with a cross and the words "IRONBOUND".
FIRST
MEETING - OCTOBER 21, 1999 Before the first meeting an excutive
board was formed. The constitution, by-laws and standing rules were drafted.
Since the club was formed and founded in the Ironbound section of Newark,
N.J. it was put into the constitution that meetings would have to be held
in Ironbound.
THE
WRAP UP The membership has increased and they come from Essex,
Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic and Union counties
here in New Jersey. The club is an AMA chartered club, and is well organized
and governed by an executive board. We hold our club meetings the third
Wednesday of each month at our clubhouse in Ironbound. Our events include
an annual summer picnic and Christmas party. All of our club sponsored
events have been a blast. Membership is open to all bikers of every race
and gender. We welcome all future prospects.
